ALERT: School Closed Wednesday 24 & Thursday 25 June Due to Extreme Heat Warning

23 June 2026

Dear Parents and Carers,

As part of our commitment to ensuring a safe learning and working environment for all pupils and staff, we are closely monitoring the latest Met Office and Department for Education (DfE) guidance regarding the upcoming extreme weather.

As you will be aware, our school is in an area currently under a red warning for extreme heat and following official guidance, we have therefore taken the decision to close on Wednesday and Thursday this week. We will re-open once the red warning has been lifted.

Temporary school closure

We never take the decision to close the school lightly, and we fully recognise the impact and disruption this has on our pupils and families. However, given the exceptional and unprecedented nature of this weather warning, we need to prioritise the safety and wellbeing of our children and staff above all else.

You’ll be aware that most other local schools in Red warning areas are also planning to close.

Learning continuity

While our buildings are closed, we are committed to making sure that children can still learn.

For Wednesday and Thursday, we will be putting in place the following arrangements:

Home learning materials: We will be providing set home-learning materials. These can be accessed via google classroom.  We will endeavour to reschedule Year 10 and 12 mock examinations that are planned to take place on Wednesday and Thursday.

An important reminder on water safety

With the sudden increase in temperatures, we know that children and young people may be tempted to swim in open water to cool down. Tragically, the risk of drowning increases significantly during hot weather periods.

We strongly urge all parents and carers to speak with their children about water safety and the Water Safety Code. Please take a moment to review these excellent, free resources together:

Next steps

We will keep you updated with further information as the week progresses. If you have any urgent concerns, or if your family requires specific support during this period, please contact us directly at parents@liftrichmondpark.org

Thank you for your understanding and continued support.

Best wishes,

James Whelan
